Mobile Health Lab
Our Mission
The primary purpose of this mobile lab is to serve the communities in need across Durham and Orange counties.
Our Goals
- Deliver cross-disciplinary health education and outreach to the community.
- Provide clinical training to the workforce in an effort to expand their view of healthcare and see community health issues firsthand, resulting in better prepared and empathetic practitioners.
- Engage the community in health career education and recruitment opportunities to broaden awareness about healthcare careers.
Our Story
Everyone deserves access to healthcare in North Carolina. Transportation is a significant barrier to accessing health services for the underserved neighborhoods in Durham and Orange counties. To bridge that gap, the idea of a community health lab began to form. With over two decades of collaboration between ʿⱦapp and Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina (Blue Cross NC) it was the natural solution to improve community health by partnering together. Blue Cross NC generously gifted the College a $1 million grant for a Community Health Lab, which will allow students and supervising practitioners to travel where care is most needed. With the support of Blue Cross NC, we can bring our efforts to scale by routinely providing this service to low-income children throughout Durham and Orange counties. The most important word in ʿⱦapp’s title is “community,” and we have both an obligation and an opportunity to serve residents in creative and distinctive ways.
